This is what I do with a philosophy degree.

Content strategy may not seem directly related to philosophy, but I arrived at both for a similar reason: a broad range of interests, a drive to understand by getting to the heart of the matter and a desire to communicate effectively...plus money and prestige.

Here's what I do everyday.

As Senior Content Strategist for Tribune Publishing's Studio 1847, I work with national and local advertisers to tell their story.

I work with Tribune's local sales teams to develop content strategy for pitches and RFPs. Postsale, I collaborate with a team of creatives and project managers to deliver effective branded content campaigns.

One day, I am creating social media content for a South Florida gourmet market or interviewing a financial manager for a piece about planning for retirement. The next day, I'm working on a bid for a food delivery service with a $500,000 budget or developing a microsite to promote a virtual event for one of Tribune's properties.

Want to know some of my clients and where you can find my work?

My work with Studio 1847 has appeared in the Chicago Tribune, New York Daily News, South Florida Sun Sentinel, Orlando Sentinel, Baltimore Sun, Hartford Courant and Capital Gazette.

If you're still around, this is how I got here.

My first job in high school was as an apprentice in the advertising department for a publisher of five local weeklies, MainStreet Newspapers in Jefferson, Ga. So, finding myself in the branded content studio for a major American publisher is a full circle moment.

While writing and language have been a running theme, my career has taken a winding path from teaching English as a foreign language in Spain and South Florida to freelance writing for local publications like Purehoney Magazine and Porthole Cruise Magazine. I have worked as a legal assistant at a social security disability law firm and marketing manager for a real estate developer.

But it was my time as Digital Media Manager at a Fort Lauderdale public relations startup that provided the agency experience with public and private clients that set me on the path toward the world of branded content.

Three years in the PR world led to a position with the Sun Sentinel Media Group to launch their inhouse advertising agency....but not so fast. Before we got the ball rolling, Tribune centralized all branded content programs with Studio 1847, and I was hired onto the Chicago-based team.

So, what's next?
